The Social Justice and Empowerment Department (SJED), Government of Rajasthan, implements social security pension schemes.

In particular, the Constitution of India, in Article 41, directs the state to provide public assistance in cases of poverty, old age and disability, as well as in other undeserved situations of need, within its economic capability and development. 

In 1995, the Government of India launched the National Social Assistance Programme to lay the foundation for a National Policy for Social Assistance for Poor. The SDOs and BDOs sanction Social Security pensions. The sanctioned pensioner payments are initiated by different Treasury offices and Sub-treasury offices of the state.
